It is crushed walnut shells. Should i be using something diffrent? I've used it with my other Sav since i got him and he was a couple months old.

I've never used crushed walnut, but I have heard of impactation caused by ingestion of crushed walnut. Some people haven't had problems, though.

Then what would you recomend? I want only the best for my babies :)

The monitor keepers I know keep theirs on orchid bark mulch, since cypress mulch is hard to find around here.

That is a really cute Easter lizard you got. I wish the Easter Bunny would drop another beardie off for me.

cute...congrats...

when I got my beardie as a baby, they said use sifted play sand first but the ground walnut shell was good for when he's older...I used sand the first year and a half and walnut shell the past 2 yrs with no problem...I didn't know there were sometimes complications with it until gimli said something...and since I was emptying his cage when I moved and he didn't like the paper towel, I searched for something else and got these pellet things made out of alfalfa...I just put them in tonight...will see what he thinks...they dissolved into mush in the water...so that seems like it's good

I use top soil and dirt with my sav and never had a problem.. and you'll see they LOVE to dig if you try that.

Most monitors would prefer you give them a dirt substrate.

I've been using what i have been for over a year now with my other sav and he loves it. He digs in it as well. But i think i will try the soil and see that he thinks.

onyl one prob with my soil, the sav loves it but man I haven't seen is natural color since he's been digging. he has really amazing color for a sav too, no matter how many baths he's so dirty... but as long as he's happy. hahaha it's a fair trade
