View Full Version : Looking for lobster roaches

Anyone here raise lobster roaches? I'm looking for a starter culture. I'm looking for alternatives to crickets, which generally defeat my efforts to keep them alive and thriving  .

Crix are a pain to keep alive that is for sure! I know of one person who would buy a box and forget to feed the crix so they would all end up dead so quickly, I won't mention names and she has told me that she now feeds them...
I just got some roaches from "Cool Scott", I don't know how many more he has but you may want to check with him. Although he is very protective of his roaches. You have to promise to read to them every night and sing them a song before they go to sleep, if he has extra he will fax you an adoption app. I'm sure
Although it does seem kind of ironic that the vet can't keep the crix alive

I was wondering about lobster roaches as well.
I have seen where they say it is a pain to use them because they climb glass and that discoid roaches are a viable alternative.
I also wouldn't need a hundred to start a colony and that is the smallest number I have found. That was $30 for 100 + $35 shipping. Not worth the it when crix are $16 for 1000.
BUT, I would to know more about these lobster things....

Yes, and don't live with anyone who thinks roaches are not a good idea as reptile food. Something about putting up with crickets and mealworms and the beetles in the mealie box and all the potatoes being more than a person should expect of another person. I thought "so move out" was a good enough indication of my feelings on the subject.
So, no roaches this week....not in the mood to fight. I'm sure that will change soon enough.

Yes, very important... don't let them get loose or you might wake up the next day and all the silver ware will be gone! :D

On a much better note though...if your house does get infested and your women leaves(Kiote) at least you got some bed bugs to keep you warm!Lol!J/K.Im in the same situation though, i HATE crickets, but unfortunately for me my girl is completely disgusted by roaches. She doesnt want them getting lose and infesting our place.I then tried to ease her mind by saying "hunny were renting itll be ok, if we get infested well just move."Needless to say we are still using crickets...dirty little bast***!!

Never tried the roaches but I think I will just use the crickets or king mealworms.

Just so long as you realize that I am the one who wants the roaches (and that I AM a chick!). Out of 19 snakes and 13 geckos (got rid of a couple) only 1 snake and 3 geckos don't live in my bedroom. The crickets and the mealies are in there as well. Oh yeah, the 2 male rats are in there and the 2 females are in the dining room. So far the only mammals (non rat) that will sleep in there with me are my son Brian and my dog. I have had other offers, just haven't got the heart to share anymore :?
I get roaches in my house every time the landlord next door decides to spray for them. They come over here and I get to kill them. Luckily it doesn't happen often. I do hate both roaches and crickets.....consider that they are closely related. Might have to get out of geckos altogether, but I got them for the kids......
