Biologist: Rescued Reptile Didn't Make It

A giant tortoise found over the weekend in Cheyenne has died.
A state Game and Fish reptile expert examined the tortoise Wednesday and said it had died.
It's not clear yet when the animal died.
But officials do know where it came from. Sixteen-year-old Max McCartney had kept it as a pet for three years. He thought it was dead when he left it along a fence behind the hotel his mother manages.
That's where Terri Smith found it on Sunday. She and her husband say they think the animal was alive when they brought it home that day.
The giant African tortoise weighed some 60 pounds, and was at least 20 inches in diameter.
