ive turned a few select people to this site from the shop. others i just tell about the care sheets. our local mall is selling leopard geckos like they are shoes or toys. god some people are way to dumb to own reps. at least 10 dead babies have come to me in the last 2 weeks. theyre on samd substrate in a small plastic tub with a bowl of water and a coconut half shell no heat no light. if they shell out the extra bucks they get a crappy tiny heat pad that dosent work well. and a 100ct bucket of small mealworms. they dont tell about shedding or other food or anything. im doing more business for glad disposable tupperware and sphagnum moss than anything else in our store. and we dont even sell the stuff! 3 came in this week missing toes or with serious shed probs. impactions. lack of growth, blah blah blah. im venting. i wish somebody would make that place shut down. its negligence and cruelty. and on top of that i almost got fired tonight for wanting to put a rabbit into my stew pot. non seller. came from a frat house. im guessing to much pot and beer. nice and fat but wacked out of it's mind. i was even willing to give my boss 5$ for the thing. weve sold it 3 times and people bring it back cause it's so nutz. man how was i to know most of our employees are pita members!
ok im done complaining.

I'm kinda intriqued by this statement, considering I know the owners and have been to this kiosk many many many times. You say that people have brought in at least 10 dead babies this week? Why would those people bring the pet shop you work at those dead leopard geckos and not back to the kiosk they purchased it at, considering the kiosk offers a 30 day health guarantee ?
I never knew leopard geckos needed lighting? would you please explain? I've been working with them for nearly 13 years and was always under the assumption they were nocturnal and didnt need special lighting, non of the professional breeders I know use lighting at all.
As for the sand and heat pad you claim they sell along with the leopard geckos, and the fact they dont "tell customers about leopard gecko care"...Let me first say that the owners of these gecko stores are amongst the top 5 most reputable breeders and sellers of reptiles in the world, I have seen the kits and habitats they sell and it consists of everything you need to keep leopard geckos...
the kit comes with the leopard gecko, depending on what size terrarium you want to go with...med. reptile keeper, lg. reptile keeper or 10 gallon glass cage. All of the kits also come with a T-rex or Exo terra under tank heat pad, T-rex coconut home, ceramic water dish, spray bottle, sandfire leopard gecko super food /calcium/vitamins, thermometer, cell-sorb as bedding, and the most important thing of all that NO ONE includes...a care book written by Robbie Hamper. Imagine that...a company that actually INCLUDES all of the above in their setups and doesnt try to gouge and oversell a customer things they dont need.
So with that said, whats the difference between whats offered in that kit versus how a breeder keeps them in a plastic "rack system"? except that the kit they offer is very complete and adequate.
I dont have problems with people complaining or "venting" about how another company does business, but at the very least have verifiable proof to back up those accusations. What do you think people say about the pet store you work at ??? is even 50% of the stuff said even true ?
The biggest problem with people these days is there quickness to find fault in everything or everybody else. Its bad enough that you've got people like Peta out there and then people adding fuel to that fire just for the sake of adding fuel and nothing more. If everyone had a more opened mind and compared apples to apples, they'll realize pretty quickly that most of the stuff they complain and vent about is done just for the sake of complaining and venting with no justifiable reasoning.
Its bad enough that alot of these GOOD companies try very hard to conform to what the world perceives as whats acceptable, let along have to fight people that will never understand nor have the desire to understand, we as reptile keepers / pet owners fall into that category and should be at the very least supportive of people that are doing a god job.

alex, i want to appologize for venting in an inapropriate way. my exaspiration comes not from the gecko kiosk but from customers idoicy! i will admit that the kiosk does a great job of informing the customers. the problem im finding is that although these people are equiped with the tools and good animals and info necessary to have happy healthy cohabitation they dont listen or take advice! they come to me with dead animals and ask why and are mad because they died. they want me to sell them new geckos when they are the ones who killed the original ones! no one wants to admit that they screwed up to me. and if they did i would deny them the purchase of one of our babies anyway. i am sure that they know this. my mom has aptly pointed out to me after your post that i am to gulliuble and i despiratly try to believe that no one would hurt or neglect an animal on purpose. i also have a big problem with believing in people and that no one would knowingly lie to me. what can i say. i am a gullible jack ass. if i would have been thinking i would have gone to the kiosk and checked it out then started asking the customers comming to me what the heck they though they were doing. as for the lights, it's not a question of lighting. i realize that they dont need special lighting and that they are nocturnal. ive studdied your material quite heavily actually. the only reason i even suggest infered lighting is because of the heat factor. as far as i have found the geckos dont pick up the infered spectrum in there vision so they wont stress if it's left on all the time. i notice folks think it's cool to have geckos in chilly spots with less than adiquate moisture and unplugged heat pads. folks dont plug in pads and dont feed enough, and these frozen geckos wouldnt have frozen if some guy would have taken an extra second to plug in his heat pad. i figure if they have a lamp for safe heat and it's on all the time maybe a gecko will be saved from stupidity in it's deadly human form. i have no beef with the mall gecko sellers beyond that it's a killer money maker and an awsome idea and gets the idea of reptiles out there better and all that good stuff, but come on theres a reason no mall around here has a pet shop anymore. instant gratification! living things shouldn't be an impulse purchase. it makes them less real and more of a new toy and easy to pick up and throw away like disposable america is supposed to be right. ok im rambling. i am sorry. and i appologize for my previous comments made in haste. i have changed my complaint and i truly hope i havent caused any perminate damage.
