Those are some great pics! Didn't know we had those in MI!!! I'm down in Kalamazoo and the only snake I have seen in the last 6 years has been ONE garter. Gonna have to go north where the real life is.

We do get some mushrooms down here though! Love Morels!!!!

For some reason I failed to notice that hoggies HAVE A HOOD!!!

That is so frickin cool...

I am going to have to get one now...never really had one on my list before...but now they are definitely there...

When I lived in Michigan I have caught garters...a blue racer (try chasing one of THOSE bastards across a field of mown grass!!!)..and a five lined skink juvenile that still had the gorgeous blue tail (and never knocked it off catching and keeping it overnight).
Saw a hoggie dead on the road near my place one day, too...small one.
I think it was a hoggie...it was pretty much completely flat and messy...hard to identify.

8) Ya we have lots Hognose around here as we have alot of swamps around us they eat all the toads, we have kepted a few younger hognose but the only thing we could feed um was toads, ya can give um a mouse they will eat it but it will regure it and it can kill the snake as there systom aint set for a mouse its for toads only. When there young they have alot of patern to them some adults have good patern to but mostly faded and ya cant tell till the hood out then ya can see the patern or if ya see the underside you can make out some patern. They have several ways of detering preditors first they hiss loudly, show hood or play dead, they actualy flip right over as if there dead. We have all kinds snakes around us, milk snakes, little green snakes, green racers, blue racers all though i havent seen a blue racer in along time, we have ring neck snakes, garter snakes, black rat snakes which i have only seen 2 since we been up here, little brown snakes, there really cute and also the red bellied snakes there really neat and pretty but small, i hate the water snakes there plain outright nasty buggers, and then i have kepted Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnakes but finaly had to give them up due to kids that were not scared of them. i wasnt taking the chance with that accident waitting to happen.
Once we went out herpin-swamping and came across a blue striped garter but it was road kill i was bummin.. I will start getting more pics of all the diffrent snakes we find and post um for everyone to see..
