Went to the Columbus Reptile show Saturday and of course, they had baby KSB. I guess I just need to know what the temp and humidity should be, the best thing to keep them on. The guy said he's eating live pinkies, but he's so small! Do I get the tiniest ones I can find? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Low humidity. If you have a screen top, you can keep a water dish in at all times and everything should be fine. If you have a hard top, then only have a water dish in 2-3 times a week. When i have a water dish in i tend to crack open the top (but i have larger KSBs that can't make it through a small crack.) Decent temps are needed. There's no data supporting the idea that light plays any role in a KSB's life, so you can heat the cage however you chose. It's recomended that you have a basking spot around 95 degrees with a low temperature of around 85 during the day, with a night time temperature range from the high 70's to the mid 80's. I personally use aspen shavings for my Kenyans, but I have heard of people using crushed walnut shells and a few people use sand. I wouldn't recomend sand though, it causes too much impactation, especially with smaller snakes. If the "he" is a "he" then you'll only need a 10-gallon tank for the rest of his life. If it's a female, you'll probably find that you need at least a 20-gallon tank for her. I hope this helps. Good luck with the new KSB, they're great pets.

I use sand exclusively for sand boas, keep in mind that in the wild they live, breathe, and eat under the sand. Havent noticed any problems whatsoever keeping them this way from birth to adulthood.
