question for all the monitor keepers. I'm trying to find the best substrate for my savannah. I debated useing dirt so he could burrow in it easily and it's easy to spot clean as well. You can also usea shot vac to take off the top layer when cleaning. I wanted to get you guys' opinions on using dirt. I wanted to avoid mulch or wood chips because the cage is in my bedroom and I can't stand the smell. I can't really use carpet because his claws get stuck so I was leaning towards teh dirt idea. Let me know what you guys use and what works well.

Sand or newspaper would have to be my best answer on that...hehehe

dirt is great for them i would stay away from sand and newspaper they like to dig so newspaper is not guna help them and sand gives them a lot of health problems.

I just read something recently about dirt...use the bagged stuff from a garden center...and be sure it has no additives (fertilizer/plant grow stuff).

The bagged dirt will be virtually sterile...whereas local dirt will have every organism you don't know about in it and could infect your reptile.

I think the link was in the Ask The Doc forum on this site...but I may have seen it somewhere else.
If I find it I will post a link.
