I don't know how many of you have ever seen this before. I know I have seen clips on tv over the years, but I never realized all that it entailed.
This site details first hand some of the practices that go on at this thing.
Amazing that this is allowed to go on.

I don't even know what to think about this.
Only in Texas.
The gentleman who wrote this piece is named John Hollister. His website is

He has written articles for Reptile Magazine (He wrote the eyelash viper article in the latest issue of Reptile) and has been herping for many many years. Very interesting guy whose background lends quite a bit of credibility to this story.

I agree, it is barbaric. The original concept of the round up was suppossed to be for public safety. The snakes would be removed from public areas. The fact that they search for the snakes and take most of them from dens is hard to stomach. I don't know, maybe in the future, a state will host a pittbull round up. I know that I have a couple of runnins with my neighbors dog before we finally came to an understanding.
P.S.
I dont have any problems with pittbulls. In fact, after the first time my neighbors dog growled at me I simply told it no and when it stopped I fed it a treat from my own huskie's treat bag.

Ya know I read this at work and literally thought I was going to get sick.....all that senseless killing......as for why would anyone buy a raccoon foot...I can only assume its along the same lines as having a rabbits foot(which I also find rather gross) but the fact that they had a PILE of at least 3-4 different KINDS of FEET was rather disturbing.

I agree...
I guess, knowing raccoon hunters...it is just another avenue of enterprise.
I mean raccoons get killed for their fur...and to play the devil's advocate...at least they are using more parts of the animal.
I am a hunter...I don't kill ANYTHING for it's fur...and I subscribe to the Native ways as much as I can in that I use as much of the animal as I can.
I eat everything I kill.
Nothing goes to waste.
But it still made me pretty sick.
The turtles with the rattlesnake heads and tails was beyond me.
Killing TWO beautiful animals for no other reason that to create the crappiest looking novelty I have ever seen.

ummm well this has been a long talked about issue with alot of people who own and deal with venomous...Barbaric is a understatment...All that just for some ammusement..They could at least re-realese the snakes or give them to someone who can deal with them...Personally they should ban the collecting of diamond Backs...

All you had to do was say Texas and I knew right where the round-up was . Sweetwater . The amount of snakes they take in is astounding .
