Check this article out.
It is from the Enquirer (The Cincinatti Enquirer NOT the NATIONAL Enquirer)

http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2004/09/12/loc_loc4ssssnake.html

I don't know if the laws they quoted are true, but if they are...GeckoGirl is definitely a felon...No species NOT indigenous to Ohio? Usually it is the other way around...and only for wild caught.

Oh, well...pretty interesting list of species...surprised they didn't list the Gaboon VIper as HIGHLY VENOMOUS considering it can inject an unreal quantity of venom in one bite...and it is VERY TOXIC.

They got it wrong. You can't have anything indigenous. They just did that big bust last year at the Columbus show and were arresting people with captive bred corns. What a screwed up system!

Aren't hognoses venomous as well, but just rear-fanged and unlikely to bite or cause a strong reaction if they do?

Well yes Hognose snakes are indeed venomous but the venom they posess would probably not even give you a stomach ach..The venom they posess does not have certain enzymes that other venom has...

Yes, hoggies are rear fanged.

It's people like this woman that make the law makers not like our hobby/businesses!

And it certainly doesn't help when the media doesn't even have the right information either!

I can't blame this woman entirely...she got cracked by her own hot...that is the chance you take owning hots.

They did find a lot of herps running loose, supposedly...but how accurate that is can only be guessed. Media NEVER sensationalizes ANYTHING

They did say however that all her hots were well secured...including the one that envenomated her...which means she was responsible enough to secure the enclosure before dying...

They also said that all her herps were well taken care of...and healthy.

I mean any one of us who has a lot of reptiles(hopefully I will be in that rank in the next few years) would be made to look like a complete ODDBALL by the media if the police/animal control ever had to go into any one of our houses. It just goes with the territory of owning reptiles. At least it is becoming a more accepted practice as time goes on.

The last swap I was at...there was a middle aged woman in a 500 series Mercedes with her two young boys...looked like she just stepped out of the country club...but she was in their with the rest of the people, loving it.
Just goes to show it is becoming acceptable.

Hey JL...thanks for the links...

Call me silly, but I am still hung up on the fact that the Gaboon Viper never gets mentioned, considering it is probably the most lethal snake on the list.

Well Alias the fact that a Gaboon is not mentioned on there is not that supprising..There are not that many victims of Gaboon bites as one would think..They are very placid in temperment..

Well my having some free time and some other personal reasons  had me looking up the herp laws of Ohio. Gecko you're good  the laws are just for native animals. I know you wanted to hear that. Now if you really want to be arrested I am sure i could find a pair of handcuffs around here someplace
