I know you are not supposed to do this, BUT, I have a few new tanks with UTH's that I would like to switch around. Has anyone had any success with removing and resticking a UTH? Any tips or advice for ways to remove it without damaging it?

Thanks
Derek

Well I can't help you there. But what I do is never stick them to the tank. I leave on the adhesive (which I am sure is really worng  ) but that way i can set what ever tank i want on it. It works out great except in the one rack I have I slide the tank out and the hat mat comes with it. It's nothing more than putting it back in, but to some it would be a pain..

If you read the manual it says not to remove the UTH once you have sticked it under a tank.
If I was you, I'd go to Walmart and buy a human heat pad for $10 dollars, the Dunlap model.
I've been using mine for about four months, its excellent.
Not to mention its HUGE for its value.

Heh Heh well I have pulled two of them off..and restuck them...they still stick and work.
I unplugged them waited until I could handle them, started at a corner and gently peeled them off..then restuck them immediately..

Hmm, my message didn't post. anywho...

If need be, I just peel them off and restick them. You just have to be careful not to bend them too much.

That's what I thought!!

I knew you weren't SUPPOSED to...but I figured it could be done with some success.

Hate to buy new ones!!

Thanks everyone!

Oddly enough. I tend to Duck tape my under tank heaters to the tank. It works well, and the Ducks don't seem to mind. Also If I need to remove it.. All I have to worry about is cleaning duck tape goop off the glass or plastic.

That would make me wary of leaving the wax paper on the heat pad...just in case.

I know you should not remove them but I do it all the time :? ...well not all the time but a lot  .
They really are not too difficult to pull off but I try not to bend them while pulling them. So far I have not had any issues reusing them at all.
I like the idea of not ever removing the backing and just setting the tank over the heater but I have never tried it here. :)

What's "duck tape"? I suppose that may be easily obtained from Duck's Unlimited? I need to find Ken and get the scoop on this one. After all, he is the resident duck ****** around here.

Possibly a form of tape made out of ducks? :D

tapes beginning with the word D are exclusinary to their purpose. For example.. Duct Tape does not work on Ducts but works on everything else. Conversely, DUCK tape, does not work on Ducks but you can use it on Ducts.
I prefer Duck tape over Duct tape because I seldom find myself taping ducks but I have been known to tape ducts.

Oddly enough, I think that considering Heat mats, and Snake caging contains neither Duck or Duct in their description, my guess you could use both types of tape.

Yes I've seen Duck Tape, there is a pic of a yellow duck on the wrapper. No you can't get from DU. Oh and do the ******'s stand for "Killer"
