has anyone ever tried raising gerbils as feeders. I've heard thats a ball pythons natural food int eh wild. I didn't know if it would be any tougher than breeding mice or rats.

Good question I have wondered the same thing. Although I heard gerbils are more aggressive than mice.

I dont know I have had great success with my mice but never really thought of trying gerbils...I guess I think of them as pets lol not clinical like white mice or rats lol

The major problem with gerbils is that they have small litters of 2-4, and not near as often as rats or mice. So, same cost of upkeep, more expensive startup because they are more expensive animals and less productivity = worse choice than mice or rats for feeder breeders. dave

my wife raised gerb's as pets. I wish I could raise them for food but like mentioned above they just don't produce in the numbers mice/rats do. Which is unfortunately because gerb's don't urinate much and don't smell bad at all, compared to rats and mice. I suppose if you only had a couple snakes you might be able to do it but I still don't think it would be as effective. All of us mouse/rat breeders need to come up with with genetically enhanced rat/mouse breed. Now that would be worth alot!
