I was wondering how many people here keep anacondas? I have a green and in a couple day I will have a yellow. I hope to get a couple more and breed them in the future.

Anacondas sort of give me pause....., and I keep an AfRock and a 'Tic. "A man's got to know his limits." (Clint Eastwood) And it's not just because of that hokey Jon Voight movie!

I wish I had the time and the space needed for an anaconda. I've seen soem pictures from people who own them and when they get to that 25 foot size with a 14 inch diameter body that makes me tend to back of. My respect goes toy ou if you can contain that, beautiful animals.. I can't affoard the baby elephant it would take to feed them either, lol... I've heard that after a huge meal some anacondas may note eat for another year or up to two depending ont the size, so that is reasurring.

CrazyCody : How big is your green? How long have you had him? Hows the temperment? I've heard that they can be just downright mean. Is he cb or wc?

My green who i call "Annie" i think is a female. its hard to tell with anacondas couse they have large musk glands and u can not tell if its male or female only way to tell is by spurs. she is over 5 feet long and 7 1/2 pounds i have had her since april. i was told she was cb but thing she came from a wc gravid female. most anacondas are mean when i got her she was the devil but i got her used to me. she bites me every time i pick her up but its only to make shore its me. she also had tape worms when i got her but with meds they are no more.
i am hopeing to get a pair of yellows soon and a nother green. i am going to be going to the hamburg show on the 7th looking for them.
there are not a lot of people out there that can care for an anaconda. over 90% of the anacondas out there are wc or came from wc gravid females.
i would post some pics of my conda if i new how to put a pic up on this.

CrazyCodyUpload your pics to a host like PictureTrail or PhotoBucket (they are free) and put the pics into an "album" there. Then copy and paste the image URL from the album in between the image brackets of your post here.

Nice, C'Cody. Love the shedding picture. No mistaking the spherical blotchy markings of an Anaconda, is there? But what will you do when she's 25 feet long?

I just dont think I could ever feed anything a GOAT lol I could. Meat's meat. Why does a goat's life have more sanctity than a rat's, or a cricket's? Don't mean to be confrontational - just pondering.

as for the why not goats comment...they're freaking huge lol
but I'd rather feed them over bunnies since bunnies are cuter...I feed f/t mice/rats...I'm not into live/f/k...live definitely not b/c of all the complications that could occur...f/k b/c I just wouldn't do that...I might if it was the only way or better way...but I'm not going to keep mice as well now and pet stores take horrible care of theirs and freezing kills lots of bacteria to boot...as I saw it, f/t was the best option...I used to have mice as pets when I was younger and even bought one out of a snake cage at a pet store once...idiot ppl...it was running around and on top of the snake and the snake couldn't care less
ok, bit of a tangent...I would like to ask the bronx zoo though when they feed their big snakes...they have huge boas and retics...I've wanted to catch that and have chatted with a couple reptile ppl who work there...always nice...oh, will post some zoo pics when I get a chance...have a ton

I'm curious....how much does a frozen pig or goat set you back for?
CrazyCodyKadunk
08-09-2004, 04:08 PM
i do not really no i have not bin shopping for them. the one place i was going to buy pigs and goats from seems to have disapeared. i dont think they cost that much. you can go to a farm auction and buy them very cheep there.
CrazyCody
or u can go to a petting zoo with a really big coat and try and stuff some goats in it. lol

Sorry, I know nothing about anacondas but I have a few questions. What is the difference between green and yellow? Are yellow conda's smaller? These questions are stirred up in me everytime I read that someone has anacondas (green AND yellow) and people only ask about the green, never the yellow.

CrazyCodyKadunk

yes yellows are much smaller then greens. a male green gets about 12 feet and a male yellow get 6-8 feet. a female green gets 20+ feet biggest one ever found was just under 24 feet a female yellow gets 13-15 feet. greens need to be feed birds as there first meal (chicks or quail) and yellows will take rodents as there first meal. both need about the same temps and humidity and its hard to find a tame conda. there are more cb yellows out there then greens.
if you have any more questions just ask there are not to many people out there that know things about anacondas and most of it is wrong information.

What is the difference between CB (colubrid? is that what that is?) and the other one, I forget. What do they mean? and what is the difference? (is one more valuable?) Thanks.

CB stands for captive bred. If you are looking for giant feeders ... give this place a look : http://www.giantfeeders.com/ . I know some people who get pigs from them and have nothing but good things to say about them.

CB is captive bred
WC is wild caught
CH is I think the abbv for captive hatched...when they take eggs from the wild

if u ever hear of a hatchling anaconda dont buy any thing from that person. always get captive bred animals and never wild cought. wild cought animals never really calm down and are crawling with parasites. also its very hard to get wc animals to eat. wc animals r cheeper then cb but there r so many problems with wc that its better to pay the little extra money for a good healthy feeding animal.
