I was wondering what the smallest Monitor is? Im getting more and more interested in getting one but i just dont have enough room for a HUGE monitor. So anyone know what the smallest monitor I can get is and about what price range they are in?

Alex was selling some home-grown Varanus auffenbergi 6 months back. These are small and rare, an excellent combination insofar as monitors go. I suggest you contact him.......

As Dr. alan said timor monitors ste=ay pretty small lizard wise. Most monitors get fairly large. The tree monitors are usually teh smallest but some of them (blue tree monitor) can still grow up to 4ft. Keep in mind tghat the tail will sometimes make up 2/3 of the size. Most of these are also not as friendly as other monitors. Most of these also run at a slightly larger price than say a savannah or ackie monitor. A timor would probably be the best bet. from what I've read they stay about 200mm grown. I'm too lazy to convert that from metric though. lol

I also just thought of this. I'm not sure on the price but try looking for a black tree monitor. These guys stay pretty small I'm sure, if I remember correctly they are usually about 20 inches full grown. I may be wrong, just going from memory here, but you can look into it. from what I've heard they're friendly as tree monitors go.

I hate to rain on everyones parade but, Tree Monitors should be left to only the most experienced keepers in my opinion.
Yes they are beautiful, I like the greens. They are a very delicate monitor and very few ever reach a year old in captivaty from what I have learned.
Here are 2 sites to check out. One is a keepers site, the other is a scientific site.

I know this post is pretty old, but I'm desperately in need of something to do. :D As for the smallest monitor, I think that would be Varanus storri-the Storr's Monitor.

I kind of dropped the whole idea about getting a monitor. My real passion is crested geckos, which I plan to breed! I cant wait!!!!!
