.... all pissy when he/she is in shed. Homer, my 4 month old BCI, is really ( for lack of a better term ) pissed off when he is in shed. He is currently going through his second with me. During his first with me, everytime i got near the cage he would hiss and strike at me. This time is the same thing. Everytime i open the cage to change the water ( daily ) or even walk by all i hear is hissing, and he keeps striking and hitting the side of the rubbermaid. The first time i chalked it up to the fact that he is still a baby, and i guess that is what is going on this time as well. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever gone through this with their baby BCI's?

LOL..It is not uncommon at all..Plenty of mine even as adults tend to get this way through there shed..You have to keep in mind that it would be pretty uncomfortable to be going through that ..lol..Then again he could grow out of it as alot of mine have..

I figure with a couple of years and some gentle handling Homer will eventually grow out of it. I'm not too worried, just curious if it was normal. He is my first snake i've gotten as a baby. I have a 6 foot female ( age unknown ) i adopted in May, and she is just a big baby even when she is in shed. I was just curious if anyone else has had any of the same experience.

My carpet does some hissing when in shed but once it realizes its me it calms down. Never had it strike at me before. Had some Ball pythons that were very angry when in shed bit me multiple times but it is expected.

My baby bci is definitely from hell when she is in shed, and my argentine is even worse, he will puff and hiss when you even enter the room. I have a yearling central american that did that when he was young, but is great now. In my experience young snakes often outgrow it. dave

Thanks for the responses! No shed yet, but he did calm down a bit this afternoon.

My BCI does the same thing, gets really pissy when in shed. Hisses and strikes and generally acts very bad-tempered.

i only have one that gets kinda cranky, the rest of them just try to get away, but no hissing or anything... no problems at all! not that the pissy guy is a problem, he's actually pretty funny... he thinks he can scare me! very cute! good luck with yours!

My BCI doesn't hiss at me at all..but my Argentines are pissy..especially in the beginning..just walk pass them and they'll strike..i think they like to scare me..cuz they get me all the time..lol..but yeah my BCI is currently in shed right now and is as tame as a baby sleeping or a baby in a good mood...heheh

I would just not mess with them when they are in shed. They are very vulnerable. One they cannot see very well (assuming their eyes are opaque) and two I think that there skin may be a bit hyper sensitive. For this reason I handle my snakes as little as possible until after they shed. And it is even better to not handle them for a few hours directly after shedding. Just my .02!
