This is my other passion...my mechanical baby :D
This is my 1984 Monte Carlo SS NOT STOCK
My husband is an ex drag racer..so he had to trick her up. She now sports
A New Crank and Bearings
A new oil pump system
A new Weiand Stealth competition intake
A crane hi performance cam and lifters
Hooker headers
An AFB/Carter 750 4BBl Carb
All this in a 350 cubic inch( not the norm 305)
275x60 15 inch tires on the rear
215x65 15 inch tires on the front
The body needs some TLC, abuse case...but as all good
rodders you start with what is under the hood first.
Here she is

I'm a MOPAR man myself, but Chevy short blocks done right can be sweet and you're moving in the right directions. Blower next? Good luck. Always remember: there's no replacement for displacement.

It has a spool in it..the suspenson work was done at Jegs about 20 or so years ago at the tune of $5,000.00. She goes straight as an arrow.
Retired from racing now..the sport is getting tooo expensive for the little guy.
He is reworking the motor and going to make a street machine. pro street. Rather impressive for a car cruise
From the back she looks like a steam roller.
He was running in super stock class. I will try to get some pics.

We've all kind of got to be import fans since anything coming out of Motown is half or two thirds out-of-country parts and engineering, and there's no gainsaying that the street racers coming from Japan have sand. What they lack is character. They all look alike. But a Goat, Olds 442, Chevelle SS, Challenger, ripped Mustang, Roadrunner, Plymouth Belvedere, or big 60s Chrysler were as different from each other as chalk and cheese. But they were and are competitive. And the muscle cars were one hell of a lot easier to work on, BTW, then anything produced since about 1988. You can't be a back-yard mechanic anymore.

Terri, We live in Pa. Northwest of Pittsburgh. My husband knows very well what Dr. Alan is talking about. He has worked for Chrysler as a Mechanic for over 30yrs. Back yard and independent mechanics are a thing of the past.
He started drag racing when he was 16. Started with 409 Chevy's and even beat the "Honkin Hemi" when he pulled a 8 grand hole shot on him. Then he went over to Mopar. He does not like to work on the new cars...you have to constantly be going to school to keep up with the electronics. He is in love with the BIG muscle from the 60's. Can tell you every engine, compression ratio, horsepower, torque..you name it. I just hope some day I can learn a fraction about snakes that he forgot about cars

Oh righty....if we're going to get into a import/domestic discussion....let the games begin!
Here are my 2 "babies"...2002 Porsche 996 race prepped 370 horses 320 lbs of torque 0-60 in 4.3 seconds, 1/4 mile in the mid 11's and a 2000 BMW 330CI race prepped supercharged 310 horses 265 lbs of torque 0-60 in 5.0 seconds, 1/4 mile is the 13's.
I will state in a public forum and hope the guys in the Porsche/BMW club dont see this and try to ring my neck :D .....but domestic cars do have more "character"...one of my favorite vehicles that I've had the luxury of owning and should've kept was a completely restored 69 Camarao SS, triple black. The rumble from the exhaust, uncivility, and brute power that came out of this car was unbelieveable.

How about a 1987 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z, Black and Red,2.2l.4Cyl. intercooled turbo,210 horses, front wheel drive, stock, 1/4 mi in 13.6 seconds. I really have fun with this one  28MPG and blows away Toyotas, some newer vets, mitubishi, and just about anything else I can sneak up on. 5Sp ...and third gear has never found a stretch long enough to quit pullin.
OH OH I have let my speed demon out of the bag again  Just when I had it under control. And just for the record I would love to drive a Porsche just once!

But ya'll sure do have some nice rides. As of wright now we have a 74 Dodge Dart Swinger big block383 car Dont know what it runs yet..lol.Did run mid 7's in 1/8 th mile but we done somemore motor work.We also have a 73 Plymouth duster witha big block 383 it ran low 7's last year in 1/8th mile .But we have the motor apart now doing a little more work.More power..lol..We are putting in a 630 lift solid roller cam that was designed to run with a 450 shot of nitrous.Crane says it should run mid 5's in 1/8th mile when we are done. Now if we can get the power to the ground we will be doing good.We put a 4 link under this car and slammed in on the ground as much as possible. For rearend gear it has a 5.13 gears in it on a 28.5 by 11 mickey thompson slick.I will get pics of the car when we get it put back together.
I have a 01 dakota with the 4.7 in it that had a kennel bell supercharger on it but damn gas has gottin to high so I pulled it off and sold it.Plus the law has my number around here..lol..I also have a few other mopars sitting around waiting to get the works done to them also...lol.

Does Vortec make a Supercharger for your 4.7..The 350 lt-1 we have hear had one on it but we took it off and sold it..
hevychevy427
04-22-2004, 12:49 PM
I talked to my husband on this one. Vortec is the new engine Chevy is using now. It is a totally different animal than my 350. The supercharger on your LT1 was also different as the heads on the LT1 and my 350 are different.
There are many aftermarket suppliers where I could purchase a blower/supercharger for the SS, but unfortunatly I lack the funds.
What was your LT1 out of? Camero..Vet..Firebird
We used to have an LT1 in our pick up, but we bought it that way...and boy what a shoemaker job!.Ripped that out sold it and put a 350 stock 4bbl in the truck...more dependable now.
I am going to sell the truck to get MORE SNAKES :D :D
dself40
04-22-2004, 01:40 PM
make one for the 4.7 but I was wanting to try the twin screw type supercharger. They are more like a blower than a supercharger. And it was ok but there wasnt much you can do to the electronic tranny and so forth so we had more power than we could get to the ground if that makes sense. The truck needed a stall convertor but they dont make one fer it.But I have talked to many folks that said the vortec and procharger are alot better than the Kenne Bell superchargers.

Rumble from exhaust. Uncivility. Brute power. Those are some of the reasons I ride choppers. My latest is a raked and stretched custom rigid (the yellow bike to the left, LOL). S&S 96" motor bored and stroked to 107". Makes 110 HP and 100 ft pounds of torque (and weighs less than 500#). Your Porsche and Beemer are far faster near the top, but I'll make you look like you're standing still from 0-60 :D With those 2.5" straight pipes, the sound sets off car alarms from a block away 8)

It is a "factory custom" built by American Iron Horse of Ft Worth, Texas. It's the Tejas model, which is the only rigid (no rear suspension) bike they build. 8)
http://www.americanironhorse.com/phpweb/index.php
AIH has a fairly extensive dealer network, good service and support and enjoys a reasonably good reputation. Their paint and finish work is second to none. It's a head-turner and a torque monster. :D I've been happy with it.

Hey Alex way to post and avoid my idea for next months giveaway :P I wonder how many times if any Heather has driven your baby, remind me to ask her next time I'm over that way
And I agree, that is one sweet looking bike you have Dr. Alan! I could never own one, I have this thing for going fast and if I know the bike could do 150 I would want to ride it that fast! That's why I stick to trucks, I know my Trailblazer's gas turns off at 97 MPH so i just set the cruise at 96

You want to get a real kick....I'm going to get the 911 Turbo out of storage this week...its a jointly owned race car between me and a good friend of mine...we use it strictly on the track but it is still street legal...
530 horses
565 lbs of torque
0-60 in 3.1 seconds
1/4 mile in the low low low 10's
ALL dyno and straight way PROVEN ! and all put to the floor via a all wheel drive system...no slip ...all power all to the ground.
