Ok, about 2 weeks ago i was letting my 5' Asian Water Monitor walk around the family room.He was walking around checking things out.I was sitting there flipping through the channles and then he climed up onto the couch and crawled up on my lap.I just sat there still to see what he was doing. Then he just relaxed and laid down on my lap for like 1 hr. until i put him back in the cage.I am the only one he seems to be freindly with.I have also read that Savanahs and Asian Water Monitors tend to be the most tame of the larger species,is this true?Or do i have a weird Monitor?

I hope my lil monitor clams down like that.He/she isnt to bad now just kinds flighty but settles down once of of the cage for a while. And still shy about eating in front of me.Its funny he/she wont eat as long as I am watching but if I turn my back for a few minutes he/she eats everything I put in there.I already want more monitors but want to make sure I have the room for them. What kind of cage do you have for yours? What size and all that if you dont me asking?

Well Dusty the Asian has a cage in the basement about 10'L 5'w 6'T.....
Plus one of those little ponds you keep in backyards...lol..Alot of handleing is pretty good for Monitors that obtain a good size..Just never let your guard down...Once they get big it really really hurts when you get tagged..They dont let go for a while....lol

I've heard and seen pictures of savannahs being puppy dog tame and laying in laps. I ahve a friendly savannah right now but still very young, abouta foot long and only 3 months old. I hear tehy calm down when they get older which I am hoping for, Too lively and small to let walk around now, He'd run into some small area and not come out. I'm glad to year your monitor is that tame though, it gives me reassurance that I can let mine walk around the place when he gets older.

I really don't believe in the "Tame' term, I like to say my monitors "trust "me and no longer see me as threat.
I spend as much time with them as I can. Not grabbing and holding, the savs seem to prefer my wife but Fluffy ,my blackthroat is all mine. HEHEHEHE
I like to take him/her to the diningroom to wander about ,too many places to hide in and under in the living room and my wifes birds are in the living room. lol
Once Fluffy is out and done checking the room for food he'll come right up to me. I lay on the floor for this (see, i'm not big) I will get climbed on and checked out. Word of advise if you do this, tuck in your pants legs, if Fluffy thinks it needs to be investigated, he will try to fit. I have learned to be still when I'm being used as a perch, move too fast and that tail stings.

I have never kept any...but I had a biology teacher in High School (surprised I can remember that far back  ) who had a 4.5 foot Savannah in a cage in the biology room...
I was puppy dog tame for him...and ONLY him.
He would leash it and walk it all OVER...it would sit in his lap and just relax...but anyone else came within range and it would FLIP out trying to get a piece of them...Unless the teach was holding him...then he remained calm...
One of the janitors tried to pet it one night cleaning and got bit...almost lost part of his hand...
There was blood from the back of the room...and down a floor into the bathroom in a solid stream...
Saw a juvie yesterday that made me consider getting one...need more room though.

I am going to PM you with my cell number....give me a call..me and hubby would love to hang and chat reptiles with you....and NOT just because y ou are the ONLY one close to us lol.
