Has anyone else heard about this? Apparently Wisconsin is about to pass some legislature stating that any reptiles brought into the state will have to be accompanied by vet permits, and that any carrier transporting reptiles into the state will have to have permits.

I have no idea how they would enforce this...and it could probably be a burden for adding to my collection.

Hello Joanna,
Its actually already being done in some other states now...any reptile purchased or transported must be accompanied by a health certificate from a vet.

Unfortunately, with the number of reptiles being sold sick (where the owner is fully aware of the condition of the animal), and the chance of diseases and parasites getting spread to native populations, this is not necessarily a bad idea. Unfortunately, it's probably likely to be implemented badly; and unless there is a sufficient equivalent (including quarantine) for foreign imports; its benefits may not outweigh the costs.

Another unfunded mandate produced by legislators with nothing better to do.... Ensuring compliance will be incredibly costly (but it may produce more jobs for Wisconsin state employees and I know you Dairylanders just LOVE paying those exorbitant taxes) and if it passes, the law will possibly be unenforceable. Wait for the dust to settle. It's not nice on the face of it, but it may prove to be a straw horse. What they don't know can't hurt you.

I just found this thread...did anyone find anything else out about this?

Joanna, I noticed you're from Madison. What vet do you bring your snakes to? I'd like to find one that people have had good experiences with.
