Well after another trip to Alex's, I broke down and had to get something with feet. It took some talking but finally Alex and Lee broke me down and made me buy it (hey guys it's my story here!) Anyway here is my new Hermanns tort. Yeah i know it's not a Russian but this will do for now at least..

Hey Ken,

Well I guess she didn't kill you since you were able to take a pic of him? and post a thread so I assume she fell in love with the little critter and all your "sins" were forgiven LOL

It was good meeting you and I appreciate the "donation corn". We'll have to do it again sometime when your not in a hurry and maybe grab a bite to eat with Alex or something. I learn so much just talking with you too.

And Congrats on your 1st foray into the 4 footed world ;)

Now how can anybody refuse a face like that ! Next thing you know....one becomes a half dozen.

Lee,
Yeah it was fun for sure. That drive home was painful though..I think Alex needs to move closer to me. Wait that is a bad idea, I'd be broke for sure then! Luckily the tort went straight into the reptile room so I haven't been "talked to" YET about him. Which I am sure will be coming soon..

Alex,
Yeah I can see how one of these guys can turn into a whole army! I wonder how many i'll need to keep the grass cut down on an acre? Owning a bunch of torts beats mowing the yard anyday!

Careful Alex...don't be rushing any of those little guys too far away now, they kinda grew on me LOL

Naw, I got bigger projects to foot the bill on right now...maybe someday soon I'll venture into the shelled...but not this week.

Yeah and when I get tossed out of my house, can I come stay with you? I'll work in the reptile room for rent...that way you can give Heather some time off. Actaully a few more of those little guys wouldn't be bad, heck I have enough food now for a small army of them. And I now know what collard greens are..so this is a learning experience for me as well

Lee..I knew you would need one of those as well. They do grow on you. I think that is Alex's thinking, the more time we stand in the snake room the better chance at us maxing out the charge cards..He's evil..evil I tell you

LOL Ken,

I am holding out and waiting for a few more weeks on those little Tort's although I showed my son the pic you posted and he said "Let's get 15 of those Daddy..." Too funny~ I told him one set of critters at a time and which would he rather have, Fattails or Torts....he made the right choice ;)

Lee

P.S. I know Alex is evil...but its a "good" evil~

Lee, You already have your son loving things with feet?! Oh I can see it now you'll be having boxes and boxes of crickets being shipped in every week as well as the mealworms and wax worms. I can handle a freezer full of mice/rats but I'm not really a fan of a room full of bugs..The last reptile show I went to they had a centipede that was eating a mouse fuzzy, it was cool but it gave me the chills. I can see maybe a few geckos in my future but no way will I get into the insects..

Tim, Thanks for the congrats. "Snapper" as he was named by my boy is my first ever tort. He is such a nice looking little guy, I know I'm gonna end up with more. I figure I'm almost 29 so I can watch them for 60 good years before i get too old to care about them, at that time the boy better be ready for a whole herd of them

Yeah, I am hopeful that my Roach colony does well cause while I hate bugs in the house I hate the smell of crix more...they are horrible when dead and they die too easy imho...I might have to look into a mealworm colony too I guess...

Bugs, who would have thought  All for the love of Herp's

"Fattail Lee"

"Gecko Geek Lee" :D crix...YUCK! I had a cham awhile ago (yeah I know they have 4 feet as well  ) and I had boxes of crix sent to me, you are right they stink and seem to die quicker than I could feed them. I ended up sharing all the crix with my buddy who has a AFT and a leo. Of course his definetion of sharing was I pay for them and keep them and feed them and he would just grab some when he was feeding, got to love friends..

LoL, I have more varieties of bugs then I have of varieties of herps. Right now, I have cricket hatcheries, mealworms, wax worms, fruit flies, springtail. Sometimes I get scared to sleep in my room.

I guess you'll have to be the snakepimp cause turtlepimp is already taken.
OH by the way you should amend your list in the general forum to include your new found shelled friend. We wouldn't want to leave him out now would we got any more yet? Tim

Ok snake pimp it is, I wonder how many torts I would need before I could be the "Tort Pimp"? Nope no more new ones as of yet. I have been looking at the yellow foots Alex posted, they look nice. And i think I need some Russians (just to be cool  ) I figure since I have so much food for just one little guy i might as well get more...right. I also wouldn't want to buy that many since Alex's wife feeds them all, she would get bored if I bought all of them. And I wouldn't want that to happen... Umm yeah thats it I don't want Alex's wife to get bored and not because my wife threatned to kill me if i brought home any more animals

And list is now updated...

Yeah ken those yellowfoots are sweet!!! You don't see them like that very often at least i don't. You probably better get one i'm sure they won't last long. I'm waiting for the boss to get some more leopards in I NEED A FIX.

Tim,
Yeah I was just looking at those. They do look sharp for sure! I am sure that during my next trip over to Alex's I'll end up with another tort. Heck I have all this food here and one can't eat it all so I better get another so I don't have to throw food away

pestywesty
03-01-2004, 08:50 PM
Yeah ken those little sulcattas are like mini garbage disposals they take care of that extra produce for a while then you'll be ordering it by the truckload! LOL Actually i'm kinda glad i don't live close to alex does your wife wait at the door when you get home from his house to see what youve brought home i bet it's hard to come home empty handed.
I don't think i could do it. Tim

You could have done like me . It started very harmlessly . First my Homes Hingeback then a sulcata then three rescued box turtles then a couple of yellow belly cooters then a pair of Russian torts ( Ken take note ) and now an adorable Golden Greek Tort .

Ken your in trouble now . Next thing you know it will be geckos , Chameleons and other assorted reptiles and maybe some amphibians . You will end up going to HA meetings . Funny these meetings never worked with me

Tim,
To be honest the last time I was Alex's the wife called and said don't buy and more snakes, lizards, turtles...then she stopped and said no reptiles/amphibians or ferrets....and Alex doesn't even have ferrets  So you can tell I have to be very sneaky when I make it back from the trip across state....

Kevin,
I have a rule "I'll never have more things with feet than I will things with out" I think that is a safe rule...At least I won't end up breeding roaches and other things like a friend of mine does now that he got into the gecko world...Like they say once you get into bugs you never go back......

Ken you say that now but just you wait . A few years down the road you will have a mini version of the Australia Zoo and you will remember my post .

Kevin,
Luckily I only have an acre so the zoo will have to be very small...Although if you ever make it to MI I can charge you $5 to see all the animals

Lee Slikkers
03-02-2004, 06:53 AM
Yeah, believe me raising bugs is highly over rated and I do it ONLY for one reason...Crickets stink ;)

Actually I believe I may have to ditch my entire Lobster Colony and restart with some Orange Heads instead...I failed to realize that the rack I use has a small enough gap at the top of the tubs to allow escapes...as verified by the large number of crickets running about my house (thank the lord for a tollerant wife) and these Lobsters can be/are climbers sooooooo, it looks like I'll have to try another species of Roach. Goodness, the tangled web we weave.....

LOL

Ken, come fall I'll pay ya $5 to come visit your "Zoo" out back....as long as I can take something home when I am done LOL

I know I hated the day my box of crix came, no matter how I did it they always seemed to never all make it in the tank they were in....And of course I was living with mom and dad at the time so they weren't all that thrilled to have a crickets jumping/chirping through the house..

Lee, I was just outside with "80 pounds of stupid" and stepped in err umm saw the perfect thing for you to take home from "Ken's Zoo"

Lee, if only there was such a buck around here  I have seen 2 fork horns a few does and we had a button buck playing in the backyard a lot during the winter...Although right now all I can see are squirrels and a few turkeys and rabbits. And a lot of stray cats and dogs running around :x

I'm trying to get the old man motivated to go out and buy 80 acres, but mom has him talked into leasing land to hunt on..heck as long as it is land i'd be happy..oh well at least my duck boat will be done this summer so I can always be out doing that :D

Oh I did find you something else...There are some "milk duds" that are laying next to some rabbit tracks by the brushpile..I'll just leave them there so you can collect them while you're here...

Lee Slikkers
03-02-2004, 01:24 PM
What you should be doing is forgetting about those sill deer and buidling yourself a Layout boat so when you visit this fall we can drop two in and do a tandem Layout rig...two shooters HAS to be twice the fun ;)

P.S. I'll pass on the Milk Duds...been there done that as a young ignorant kid who hung with older kids

Me build anything?! Oh man if I grab a hammer things always end up broken. And I always start bleeding..it isn't a good idea that i use tools. When I am out cutting camp fire wood the wife has the phone in hand and the 9 and 1 already pressed so she just has to hit one button..

I can remember my dad telling me you could tell how close the rabbit is if you eat those milkd duds..

You know once we get thousands of people here they are going to read this and think "my god those two are nuts" wait I bet people already say that

Just thought this was an amusing post and I wated to bring it back to the top so we can all be amused by the "once you get into bugs you never go back" comment!!! LOL
So Ken, how are your mealies, roaches, and crix doing anyway??? I guess you still have more without feet than with but does that really matter anymore??

kenster
07-07-2005, 11:18 AM
Mealies are gone, just got 6 thousand crix tomorrow and the roaches are doing good. I sing them a song every night before I tuck them into their little beds
