I'm trying to figure out how you can tell the difference in the two. Anyone know?

If I have to count scales or saddles or whatever, that's fine ...I would just like to know. :nerd:

Found THIS (http://redtailboa.net/forums/other-boas/690-bcc-bci-what-difference.html)

the difference between bcc boas and bci boas- they are divided by altitude and a mountain chain (the Andes)- mexico, central american countries- down into northern colombia are bci.
east of the andes: central and southern colombia, peru, bolivia, brazil, guyana, surinam, venezuela, and trinidad are homes to bcc.

bci have more dorsal saddles or blotches (as low as 19- but usually 21+)
bcc have less (sometimes 21, but usually less than 19)

bci grow to a large size quickly (4-10 ft, usually between 5-9) and have iron stomachs
bcc's grow larger over a period of time (can reach lengths of 12+), more heavier bodied, but dont have the iron stomachs as the col bci do.

some col bci's may have red in their tails (i have plenty of those) but they usually dont come close to the more vivid reds as some of the bcc's are known for. some peruvian and brazilian bcc's have a nice red to their tails. guyanas usually have a deep violet or plum/ red to their tails, etc, etc...

Is it accurate, as far as you "boa people" know?

Thanks! :D

BCI isn't as nicely colored as BCC - especially as they age and grow.

If you want some info etc from a bunch of Boa nuts, then hit the link below!

"Boa constrictor Imperator (BCI) have 253 ventral scales (or less) and a midbody scale count of 55-79. 21 or more dorsal blotches (saddles).

Boa constrictor constrictor's (BCC) have 234 to 250 ventral scales and a midbody scale count of 89-95. Less than 20 dorsal blotches. "

I got this from another forum.

Does anyone has an opinion for which has a better temperament?

Saddle and scale counting overlaps too much to be a reliable tool, from what I've been reading all morning.

After looking at lots of comparison shots of both, determining one from the other is better approached from an "overall picture" ...head shape and markings, saddle shape and color, body proportions, coloration of entire snake and not just the tail... so many things. It's interesting, really.

Thanks for the replies.

Maria.. from what I've read thus far, B. c. i. are more laid back and receptive to handling and being outside their enclosure.. but you know as well as anyone here, it is individual.

Maria, I have heard that BCC were more tempermental than BCI, but have never had a young BCC. The adult male BCC I had was equally as sweet as any BCI.
