So do you think they are ok or no?

For the days of gestation, thus far ...I wouldn't be too terribly hopeful for the brownish ones. They should've swelled some by now, I would think ..I mean, in my experience ..by 30 days in the inc'y ..there's noticeable swelling or growth in the size of the eggs

I bet the top center one is good and there is a maybe on the bottom center one but throw the other 2 in the trash...

Thanks. That is what I was thinking. I hope to get it right with the other two.

I have 2 cresties laying eggs right now and I think the 3rd clutch of one is in the incubator that look good the first 2 clutches went bad...the 2nd one is working on her 2nd clutch but they are all first timers so I expect it from them....

Yeah.. see the top center one looks like it has expanded some ..and there's still hope for the bottom one. How long have they been inc'ing?

The other thing is, make certain that the female is getting enough calcium in her diet ..CGD has enough, if that's what you feed solely. If you are feeding another diet (baby food, pureed fruits, bugs, etc.) ..then you need to supplement her ...and a little extra while she's laying.

I like to give Lucille figs ..fresh ones ..and papaya, mango ..fruits with a higher calcium content ...while she's churning out the eggs for me. Last night, she had Aloha Chicken w/ Mango ..boy was she happy! :becky:

I give them CGD. and fresh fruit but then I add calcium to that. The first two are her second eggs. and they were kinda brown from the beginning. So I hope that I can at least hatch one from the new batch. Thanks.

Her first eggs ever? Or just her first eggs this season?

And good luck hatching them out ..like I said, that one looks promising and the other one on the bottom could turn for the good and hatch out for you, too :D

Okay ..yeah.. now it makes more sense to me. First time layers will lay a few duds before they get it perfected. They have to practice some

Well can't you candle the eggs to see if they're viable?

I've never seen BP eggs that close up before Aminah~ weird!

BP eggs?

Yeah you can candle the smaller eggs real easy....I think it was on felicia's gecko site on a good way to do it but basically just turn off the lights and put a bright little flashlight right on the egg...it will be red if viable or yellow if not....

Yeah.. like Jeff said, you can candle with a little led flashy. I use the one on my keychain. ;)

I'm confused about the BP eggs, though ...my eggo pics are Crested's :D

Those aren't BP eggs...lol

The brown ones dented in the other day so I threw them out. And the other white one started to look bad today. So I am left with one good egg. I hope her next ones are good as well. How long should I let them go before I seperate them? Or will they take a break on their own?

OH CRAP! MY BAD!!!

I obviously just jumped on here and ASSumed they were... Sorry about that... You know, it should be obvious that I'm a giant dork by now...

For what it's worth I've never seen Crestie eggs that close up either...

How come you can't candle larger eggs? How do you tell if they're good then?

When they hatch...lol

Sorry. I don't really know if you can or not. I am sure someone here can answer that tho.

No candling larger ones are easier because you don't need the small light because they are big....you can just pick them up and do it easier...I was mainly talking about doing the smaller eggs when lighting is an issue....

Teresa.. you can separate them or you can let the shorter days and cooler nights run its course. I'm in CA, so I separated my pairs cuz only the days get shorter ..nights are still what I would consider "balmy" :p

I'm sorry to hear about the eggos.. but it's her first year and it's to be expected. Next year, she should be tossing out viable eggs every 30 days or so and you'll get some babies.. LOTS of babies!! :becky:

Gina.. it's okay, sweetie :loco: ...and btw, you CAN candle bigger eggs.. you may need a bigger flashy (or other light source), but candling is possible :yo:

Thanks Jeff and Aminah. I hope to get lots of fertile eggs but not by risking her health.
Maybe I will find another girl friend for Clyde while at Tinley. Since I am allowed to have the geckos here.
