Cassy has been in labor since yesterday. She is loosing alot of blood at this point. So I am going to have to give her oxitocin. I guess I will be busy the rest of the evening.
On a side note....she will not be bred again because this is the second time she has had problems.

Wish me luck that all or at least some servive...

I gave her the oxy and still no babies. If she doesn't do something soon I will have to go get another dose for her. I can't just leave her bleed to death. The poor thing.

She finally had her babies. She is alive but only three of her pups were alive when I found them. Two might make it but I will be using them for feeders. I don't want to keep any of her kids as future breeders. My luck they would have the same issues as her.

I'm glad she made it! I've been a silent, white knuckled, teeth grinding "bundle" ever since you posted this  You know me ...I'm the Rattie Mom of all Moms!

Hopefully, you can get some "treats" into Cassy and help elevate her iron level and prevent any anemia that has set in due to the blood loss ..and she will have a full recovery. If I was closer, I'd offer to take her in and let her live out her life with my crazy chicas ...boy free, of course! ..and you could take a couple of my younger girls for breeding.

I think someone mentioned it before, but it is a factor with age when breeding Rats for the first time. It's best to begin breeding them at 5 - 6 months ..when their little bodies are mature enough and they are still young enough that their pelvic bones have not completely fused and they can pass the babies easily. When you begin breeding them this early, they can be successfully bred up to about 12 - 15 months (some, longer ..or older.. but I wouldn't push it ..me, personally). Of course, allowing ample time in between litters and supplemental foods during pregnancy and nursing.

I'm glad she's okay :thumb:

She had her first litter at 5 months and it has been three months since then. Her mom had the same issues I guess. I am thrilled that my so called friend gave her to me for breeding when she apparently new this.....OH well. Her breeding days are over. Now to find her a home.

Well that's sucky ..some good friend, heh? Just put a stamp on her butt and send her to me!! :becky: Do you want Uma, Imelda or Mackenzie in return... they were born here and they're about 4 months old!
