Ok, so what exactly is crawling around in my cricket food? Ken identified them as beetles, but I can't figure out what kind, or if it even is. This is driving me nuts....... :smash:

Mealworm beetles....where are you getting your cricket food? Feed store or online place....

We got it from a local stores pet department. It's the 'Zilla' 'Gut Load & Insect Food.'

I would make sure they are mealworm beetles then write the company...should be clean of them given it is a larger company and not just some local grain....

Make sure? If I was to make sure, then I'd be questioning your word, which is something I could never do, in fear of hurting your feelings or damaging your pride. So Mealworm Beetle it is, b/c Mr. Chandler said so. :hat:

So before I start writing Zilla, can't I technically make mealworms by cooling them down?

Cool them....just put a carrot in there and add more as needed...you will have tiny mealworms in about a month....

Please question me all the time...keeps me sharp or it will drive me insane (which isn't a long drive)....I was looking for a pic I have of a beetle...I think it is the gallery here....

Another quick question. How do I get Chlorexidine off the carpet before my ol' lady comes up stairs and notices the blue stains?

I am not familiar with Chlorex-a-whatever, but hairspray always worked on my ink stained aprons when I waited tables long, long time ago... worth a shot?

How closely related are superworms and mealworms? I'm curious cuz their various morphing thingies look almost identical to me ..or I'm crazy ...umm, yeah :p

The beetles are pretty close in look but in size the superworm beetles are 2 times the size....the only thing is that there is more than one beetle....superworms won't turn into beetles if there is one other superworm anywhere by it...not sure why but they need to be alone and stressed before they will turn...at least that is what I had to do to get them to turn....never got more than just a few babies all the way to adult too, I think there is some moisture amount at a certain point in development that I just wasn't able to obtain....strange little bugs....lol

Good luck with the mealworms.....just set them up in the snake room where it is warmer and see if you get some tiny worms in a few weeks....I know like you don't have enough to do....:brick:

Oh and tell Danielle that Ken spilled the cleaner....

Tyson said he'd take the blame as a father's day gift. However, thanks to the lovely internet, we now know that repeatedly dabbing the chlorhexidine spot with a damp paper towel gets the job done. Lucky for Tyson, she might of cut him off the treats for a day or two.

I thought I was suppose to set them up where it's cooler so they didn't turn into the beetle's?

Once you have mealworms you can cool them down a bit to slow the growth but if you want to breed the beetles then I would just leave them at room temp that seems to get the job done better...
