I don't have a Cali big enough to breed with my female this year. I sold all of my large adult males and I was afraid to put the smaller ones in with her for fear that they might get eaten. I therefore decided to see what would happen if I put one of my Brooks males (I don't have any females anymore) in with her. Well they immediately started getting to know each other. :)

Then things started getting a little kinky:

I was keeping a very close eye on them and when he started getting a bit agitated, I separated them. I'll probably put them back together Sunday evening after I get back from Alabama. I do not trust leaving them in together without being right there to watch them!

And a cute picture of Yokio the Cali King:

nOoB question: Is it really typical of kings to bite each other during copulation? :eusa_eh:

It's kind of funny that he would try to eat her.. being she is the same size and all.... but still scary.

It's kind of funny that he would try to eat her.. being she is the same size and all.... but still scary.I've seen other kings bite during breeding. Brooks are one of the more aggressive kings, as well. I wouldn't be surprised if it was their normal ritual. It kind of made me feel bad for my Cali.

And kings will eat larger snakes, too, I believe. They are known for eating cobras even (and cobras can be pretty big). He is actually much stockier than her. He might be able to fit her in. AND even if one didn't get eaten, they can still kill each other.

Thanks for all of the "well wishes and good luck!":becky:

I forgot all about the "Cobra eating part" :icon_eek: I didn't realize Brooksi were any more aggro than other kings. That's interesting. I like them!

Good Luck with this pairing! :D

My floridana (I have hypo brooksi) bite, too. In fact, I looked in on the female this morning (she shed 12 days ago) and saw eggs. She wasn't done so I just closed up the nest box and left her alone. I'll take pics when I get home tonight, unless Scott puts them away....
