hey Dr allen . i have a pretty simple question actually . i sort of find myself in a debate over which is better to use for feeding rats or mice . i would really appreciate if you could clarify this for me . everything i have read says that rats have more protien and fat per oz than mice do . the person who is debating(arguing)over this says it makes no difference and that it is only opinion that says rats are better . anyone else that wishes to speak up your comments are more than welcome . ty all .also forgive me if i'm asking this in the wrong place .

Alot of it has to do with the size of the rat or mouse, for example....a adult mouse will be better than a comparable size rat like a fuzzy. The adult mouse would've had time to develop muscles, bones, and other trace minerals/vitamins...etc. from the food they were eating. Whereas a fuzzy rat wouldnt be able to provide much calcium (the bones havent formed fully), they're typically still suckling (excessive milk from the mother in the fuzzies stomach may cause the snake to regurge), there's alot more fat content which isnt too healthy either.
But then again....if you're feeding a 9 foot boa constrictor....the adult mouse probably just wont do :eusa_wall:
