melamine racks

does anyone have any websites for instructions on building a good melamine breeding rack. I think I couold pretty much do it without instructions, can't be that difficult, but a design to go by might help.

Well i use melamine for all my viper and helmeted gecko's.I am not good at building anything,so basically i have them cut the wood at home depot to whatever measurements i need.Screw the bottom into the sides,lay the tubs on the bottom shelf,lay the next shelf on those tubs,screw in the shelf,and just keep going from there.lol.Still get a few tubs that stick a little but it works.Here is a pic.

We build all of our racks virtually the same way. Slip a few sheets of newspaper under each level of bins before you screw down the next shelf, and you'll have better luck with avoiding the sticky bins.

or you could do it like Alex and I did, end up taking out all the screws after we got the built..But that added to all the fun

I've done that as well, Ken... Always a good time when you get it all done and find out a whole row will not even budge.

I also learned to keep it at 3 bins or less on each shelf. Sagging boards are BAD. Especially if you're building a rack for very small snakes.

Actually Alex did mine, and I just added a few more screws on my own...and no I didn't even bleed

now the easy question. does anyone know the deminsions for diff sizes sterilite tubs. I'm tryin gto decide how many I can fit and how wide/tall to make the rack. not knowing what I'm putting in it yet makes it a bit difficult, definately quite a few 6qts and then some larger ones as it goes down.

1754 - 15 Quart 17"L x 11 1/8"W x 6 3/8"H

1756 - 32 Quart 23 1/2"L x 16 1/4"W x 6 3/8"H

1758 - 66 Quart 23 1/2"L x 16 1/4"W x 12 1/4"H

How do you heat your melamine racks. I have laid a strip across the back bottom but have seen some where they hang the heat tape down the back instead of belly heat. Any thoughts on how that works?

Easy stuff really, your just builing a box with shelves. All I can say is, take your time!
