Roaches?

Does anyone raise roaches to feed to their lizards? It was recommended to me to feed orange-spotted roaches, but they are very expensive to get started. I was wondering if it was worth the expense.

Your water dragons and bearded dragons will LOVE roaches. I'd recommend lobster roaches if you're looking to get a colony started. Lobster roaches are cheap, breed fast, and do not get large at all.

1000 will get a colony started in no time, and in a few months, your cricket bill will go down substantially.

Anyone have any good tips on getting my girlfriend to let me switch from crix to roaches?She's completely disgusted by the concept....ive all but given up.

You made a mistake by telling her you were wanting to switch from crix to roaches.... you should of just got them and told her they are a South American Cricket. :D

I've been breeding lobsters for a while now.. Started with 100 and now have a few thousand. They breed like crazy and have soft shells, so they're safe for geckos and such too.

If you want to convince your girlfriend tell here crix smell, roaches have no oder if cleaned (and rarely cleaned at that), roaches make no noise or annoying chirp, roaches clean up after themselves and eat their dead, roaches aren't dumb enough to drown themselves in a water dish. I will always have one that drowns itself, then nobody else will until I change the water bottle. and best of all, roaches are healthier nutritionally on almost every aspect. I have a bunch of tarantulas and two monitors that get about 10-20 roaches a piece every 3 days and I haven't had to buy one insect for them in almost a year. You will love roaches.

My best advice to convince the girlfriend is to NEVER EVER EVER mention anything about escapees. Even when you spot them. :lol:

Yeah the escapee's are what she's worried about the most i think, ill just have to get some and try to get away with it as long as i can i guess lol.Hopefully i wont be looking for a roommate after this lol.

NO NO NO you silly men.....the way too get past the "escapee" is to get her a cute lil fuzzy KITTEN...then the kitten will take care of almost ALL the escapees before you even know they are out and about...AND if you actually catch the kitty "playing" with an escape you LIE and tell her the kitty is "wiggin out" and chasing "imaginary" bugs LMAO

free range house geckos.. hundreads of them... that should take care of the escapees, and be rather entertaining.

I find roach baits work better then getting a cat that you have to feed, clean up after, watch destroy your good sofa.... LOL

Or as Mike said, hundreds of large tokay geckos free roaming your house at night! :shock: :twisted:

I think im way passed that....we got three cats already, lol.Not to mention the beardie i bought her a couple years ago so shed let me get into boas, which i have a few of those.I did the whole sneak attack when i got into crested geckos lol.I got a pair, that she knew of and all of a sudden i had 6 pairs and eggs up the wazzoo.Had to come clean when she seen all the rubbermaids starting to add up.
